Local Area Information
Southwest Ohio is a wonderful place to visit. It’s also convenient and cost-conscious, which is helpful when you are here to support a loved one going through treatment at Atrium Medical Center. In addition to the larger metropolitan areas of Dayton and Cincinnati, southwest Ohio offers a collection of smaller communities—some voted in the top American towns—each with a flavor of its own.
The following information offers patients and visitors options for long-term or short-term stays, including dining, hotels, shopping, and entertainment.
Dining and Hotels
Regional dining is as varied as the shopping. Local, regional, and national restaurants—from fast food to fine dining, as well as specialty eateries—are plentiful. An array of cuisines will satisfy any palette and pocketbook. The restaurant landscape includes Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse, the regionally recognized El Meson (authentic Latin cuisine), and the historic Golden Lamb (a restaurant inside Ohio’s oldest inn). Fine Italian, Indian, East European, South American, Asian, and American cooking styles can be found throughout the region.
There are many hotels located close to Atrium Medical Center. If you are visiting a loved one in the hospital, please ask the hotel if discounted rates are available.

Shopping in the region is as fun as it is varied. The multiple enclosed malls offer a number of national and regional department store chains, as well as specialty boutiques. The newest shopping areas are The Greene in Dayton, Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe and the Deerfield Towne Center—the latest in “lifestyle” shopping experience and high-end merchandise. Smaller shopping areas are scattered throughout the region.
For the antiques lover, Waynesville and Lebanon offer endless opportunities for good finds. Bargain hunters can find hours of enjoyment every weekend looking through two massive flea markets in Monroe.
Foodies will love upscale grocery shopping at Dorothy Lane Market, known for its Killer Brownies® and other delicacies. The more adventurous shopper will enjoy Jungle Jim’s International Market in fairfield - a cornucopia of food, with nearly 140,000 items ranging from the everyday to the exotic.
Recreation and Entertainment
Southwest Ohio is a dream come true for sports lovers: The region is home to college sports, major and minor league baseball, NFL and indoor football, AHL hockey, and championship tennis and golf. Speaking of golf, the area is home to more than 100 golf courses, several of them championship level. Nearly every sport has a competitive or recreational team available somewhere throughout the region.
For family fun, there’s Kings Island, Perfect North Slopes, and Great Wolf Lodge to offer thrills and chills. You can also have fun at the Cincinnati Zoo or Newport Aquarium. For a quieter family activity, more than a dozen state parks offer hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and camping. Plus, bike trails throughout the region offer the opportunity to explore the area at a more leisurely pace.
