Procedures and Services
Atrium Medical Center’s Family Birth Center procedures and services take into account the spectrum of birthing experiences. We offer prenatal care, a choice of birthing options and a full range of childbirth and family education classes to help you feel ready for that special day.
Atrium Birthing Options
Whether you choose natural childbirth, epidural or another anesthesia option, we strive to make every birth experience special. Should you require a Cesarean section, our medical professionals are prepared to make this a safe and special birthing experience as well. Two fully equipped surgical suites are just steps away within the labor and delivery unit.
Prenatal Care
Our care begins even before your baby arrives. We provide a comprehensive program of prenatal care to help the mother and baby stay healthy and to detect any potential health problems that might arise. We offer a full range of prenatal services, including:
- Ultrasound monitoring to assess the baby's growth and development
- Genetic testing, including amniocentesis, to screen for genetic conditions
- Infertility testing, counseling, and care to assist couples having trouble conceiving
- Non-stress tests to measure the baby's general well-being
Childbirth and Family Education
Atrium’s Family Birth Center offers the following series of classes for expectant parents—guiding the mother and family through every phase of the birth process:
- The Essentials of Childbirth
- Baby Bootie Camp
- New Brother/New Sister
- One-Day Condensed Childbirth Series
- Personalized Childbirth Class
- Breastfeeding Basics
All classes are held at Atrium. For more information, read our class descriptions. To register, please call CareFinders at 866-608-FIND (3463) or check out our calendar for class dates.
We also give each mother a comprehensive “at home” infant care book to use as a handy reference after she leaves the Family Birth Center.
Breastfeeding Support
We encourage mothers to choose breastfeeding to provide their babies with the best nutrition for growth and development. A full-time board certified lactation consultant is available to answer questions and lend support.
Massage
A licensed massage therapist is available to help mothers relax before and after giving birth, and to teach parents how to do infant massage.
