About the Maternal Child Health Center
Atrium Medical Center’s (Atrium) Maternal Child Health Center (MCHC) provides a wide spectrum of care for women and children. Resources including nutritional guidance and on-site social workers help support patients and families. We accept medical cards and some Medicaid HMOs. Patients without health insurance can apply for an income-based discount.
Collaboration Benefits Patients
Atrium MCHC collaborates with Dayton Children’s Specialty Care Center, which is located right next door, when sick or injured children need specialized pediatric care. As a result, Atrium MCHC patients have access to Dayton Children’s Hospital’s specialists, pediatric equipment, and services. MCHC patients benefit from the expertise of pediatric subspecialists in the areas of cardiology, urology, oncology, and orthopedics.
On-Site Specialists
A nutritionist visits the center one day a week and is available by appointment. The nutritionist designs dietary plans specific to each patient, in addition to providing general dietary guidance and information.
A social worker is also available to all of our patients. Each day during office hours, our on-site social worker assists mothers and children with challenges including:
- Discharge planning when a patient is ready to leave the hospital
- Applying for medical cards and government resources
- Obtaining additional family support
- Referrals for psychiatric care
Additionally, we provide access to lactation consultants to help new mothers learn how to breastfeed.
