Middletown Regional Hospital Accepting Applications for Adult and Junior Volunteers
Applications are being accepted for adult and junior volunteers to help in many areas at Middletown Regional Hospital (MRH). Most volunteers serve once per week for three to four hours and are asked to commit to a minimum of 100 hours of service.
Several opportunities throughout MRH are available for adult volunteers. Some of these include assisting with the mail cart, greeting guests in Admitting, general errands and patient transport in Patient Services, assisting with hospitality and clerical duties in Bidwell Surgery Center and serving as a patient escort in the Maternal Child Health Center. The Sports Medicine department also needs physical therapy volunteers and assistance with clerical tasks.
Adults must complete an application, interview and participate in a general orientation along with new hospital employees. They are then trained for their specific assignment by an experienced volunteer or by department staff. Benefits for adult volunteers include free parking and a complimentary meal on the days they volunteer, discounts at MiddCare Pharmacy and complimentary flu shots in the fall (as available).
Junior Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and can volunteer through the summer after their senior year of high school. Most Junior Volunteers run general errands and transport patients by wheelchair. They generally serve once per week from 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays, or on weekends from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 to 4 p.m. They must complete an application and attend Junior orientation before beginning their service. Junior Volunteers also receive a complimentary meal on days they volunteer. Those who drive receive free parking in the garage.
"Our goal is for all volunteers to find a position that suits their skills and interests, as well as their schedules," explains Priscilla Lane, manager of Volunteer Services.
