Golf Fundraiser Raises $10,000 for New Heart Hospital at Middletown Regional Hospital

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio—A charity golf tournament sponsored by Skanska Shook Joint Venture, the construction management team for the new Middletown Regional Hospital (MRH), has raised $10,000 for a state-of-the-art Heart Hospital soon to be constructed at the new hospital. The July 21 tournament benefited Mid-Miami Healthcare Foundation, the philanthropic arm of MRH, which is charged with raising more than $4 million for the comprehensive heart center through its Advancing Care for a Healthier Community capital campaign.

The grand total was announced at a celebration dinner immediately following the tournament at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, OH. More than 100 golfers participated, most of whom are local contractors and subcontractors on the hospital construction team.

"We're very pleased to make this contribution and, to help make an already excellent hospital even stronger for the future," said Steve Risner, project director for Skanska Shook, the organizer of the golf event. "We're fortunate to have an A-team on this project—a team that takes great pride in what they're bringing to the region. I'm pleased that so many care enough not only to do outstanding work on the project site, but also to come out and support this fundraiser with a day of golf."

John Sawyer, chair of the Mid-Miami Healthcare Foundation capital campaign, thanked Risner and all who participated for their generosity. "With the $10,000 generated by the golf tournament, the Foundation has now raised $2.6 million in cash and pledges toward our goal," he said. "We're delighted with the success of this first-time event and grateful to everyone at Skanska Shook, who took it upon themselves to support Mid-Miami Healthcare Foundation in this way."

Sawyer explained that the Advancing Care capital campaign will continue throughout 2007, with the goal of bringing the full range of heart care options—including interventional procedures, such as stents, cardiac surgery and heart valve replacement—to the new Middletown Regional Hospital.
