Performing Arts

The arts abound in southwest Ohio!

When you feel like staying close to home, you can enjoy quality performances by the Middletown Lyric Theatre or Middletown Symphony Orchestra and Youth Symphony. Opera aficionados in particular will be inspired by a production in the restored, century-old Sorg Opera House. Try an evening of Broadway-style dinner theater in Springboro or visit the Middletown Fine Arts center to see current work exhibited there. Middfest—a premiere cultural event celebrating dance, music and food from many countries throughout the world—has been held annually in Middletown since 1981.

Attend a performance of the world-class Cincinnati Ballet or renowned Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Enjoy an evening of drama at the Tony Award–winning “Playhouse in the Park” or musical performances at the Aronoff Center or Taft Theatre. See top performing artists at Riverbend Music Center during the summer, and delight your children with the dazzling productions at The Children’s Theatre.

Sports and Recreation

Southwest Ohio is a dream come true for sports lovers, since it is home to the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, and championship tennis and golf.

Speaking of golf, our four-county region boasts some of the top-rated courses in Ohio. And according to Golf Digest, you’ll find one of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses practically in your own back yard! You’ll find 100 more nine- and 18-hole golf courses in the area, 60 of which are public courses.

Dayton also has its share of sports teams. While they don’t have the high profile of national teams like the Reds and Bengals, the Dayton Flyers basketball team in particular has a loyal following of dedicated fans. Dayton teams know it doesn’t take a major league stadium to get fans into a frenzy!

For family fun, there’s Paramount’s Kings Island, the Cincinnati Zoo, the Newport Aquarium, a dozen state parks, and an 80-mile bike trail that parallels the scenic Little Miami River. And when it comes to shopping, we’ve got everything from “uptown” to “outlet”—not to mention some of the country’s best towns for antiquing.

You’ll find all this and more within 30 minutes of home in southwest Ohio. And since you won’t waste half your day getting to and from work, you’ll be able to enjoy it with time to spare!
