Atrium Medical Center Announces Expanded Health Services for Women
Middletown, Ohio, July 21, 2008 – Atrium Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of numerous new health services especially for women at The Wilbur & Mary Jean Cohen Women’s Center.
In addition to the latest, most advanced mammography available and the full range of breast biopsy procedures, the Women’s Center now offers annual pelvic exams, Pap tests, birth control consultation, lactation consultation for nursing mothers, DEXA bone-density screening, complete health risk assessments and more.
“Women today lead very busy lives,” said Janet Majors, MBA/MHA, BSN, RNC, CNOR, director of Women’s Services at Atrium. “Researching what women want and need in a healthcare provider, we discovered that many wanted their care to be more coordinated. Instead of having to take off multiple days from work for annual exams—like a mammogram, a pelvic exam and an osteoporosis screening—they wanted to take care of all of their medical appointments at one place, with same-day scheduling for multiple services.”
Full Gynecologic Services
Mary Porter, MSN, a board-certified nurse practitioner with a specialty focus on women’s health, now performs a full array of gynecologic services at the Women’s Center, including cervical cancer screening, family planning and menopause-related care. “It’s full-service care designed for women of every age and stage of life,” explained Majors.
Services for New Mothers
As a special service to new mothers of babies born at Atrium’s Family Birth Center, moms are encouraged to bring their babies to the Women’s Center within two to four days of discharge. Kimberly Crawford, RNC, a certified lactation consultant, evaluates the health of both the mother and the baby and provides expert breast-feeding assistance as needed.
- State-of-the-Art Breast Care
In addition to these services, the Women’s Center continues to offer the region’s most sophisticated and comprehensive array of technologies for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast disease, such as cancer. Leading-edge diagnostic procedures at the Women’s Center include:
- The latest full-field digital mammography
- Stereotactic and ultrasound guided breast biopsy
