Some types of cancer, including some breast, prostate, ovarian, and endometrial cancers, require certain hormones in order to grow. Hormone therapy typically involves taking medications that block the activity or stop the production of hormones. Another approach is to surgically remove the gland that produces the hormone.
With some cancers, hormone therapy is recommended immediately after the cancer is diagnosed. Other times, hormone therapy is used to prevent cancer or to keep it from coming back. Check with your physician to find out if hormone therapy is right for you.
