Atrium Medical Center Laboratory Earns Accreditation
Middletown, Ohio, February 18, 2009 – Atrium Medical Center’s Laboratory was reaccredited recently by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on a recent on-site inspection. The hospital has consistently earned this accreditation for more than 30 years.
“This inspection is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for our patients,” explains Jan Schuster, director of Atrium Medical Center’s Laboratory. “We’re pleased to be nationally recognized again for providing excellent laboratory services.”
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined Atrium’s laboratory records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also reviewed the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. The College of American Pathologists is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of pathologists and is widely considered the leader in laboratory quality assurance.
On average, between 70 and 80 percent of all medical decisions are based on laboratory data. Atrium’s laboratory offers a comprehensive variety of tests—including thousands of different diagnostic tests, biopsy readings and screenings—that help physicians diagnose and treat patients efficiently and effectively. Atrium also has six outpatient lab locations that offer everything from blood draws to urinalysis and throat culture collections. They are conveniently located at Atrium Medical Center and in Middletown, Lebanon, Springboro, Mason and Hamilton.
