Childbirth and Family Education
When you become pregnant, you enter a whole new world of exciting unknowns. Babies are so tiny, yet they generate such big questions—about your changing body, about what to expect during labor and delivery, and about caring for this new life.
Because there is so much you need to know—and because each day brings you one step closer to your special delivery in our Family Birth Center—Atrium Medical Center offers a complete series of childbirth education courses for expectant parents and siblings.
Our enjoyable, informative classes are taught by registered nurses certified in childbirth education, with years of experience assisting expectant parents and families in having a more satisfying birth experience.
Childbirth Education Options
The following four classes will prepare you and your partner for your delivery by teaching the essentials of childbirth. You’ll learn what to expect during the labor and delivery process, breathing techniques and helpful comfort measures. Learn about the use of medication during labor and delivery, anesthesia, Cesarean birth and early postpartum care. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included.
Essentials of Childbirth
- A comprehensive four-week series.
- Class Fee: $65
- If bundled with Baby Bootie Camp, combined cost is $100.*
One-Day Condensed Childbirth Series
- A single-session, six-hour class to provide a fast-paced overview for couples with schedule conflicts or experienced parents who want a refresher course.
- Class Fee: $65, including lunch coupons.
- If bundled with Baby Bootie Camp, combined cost is $100.*
Personalized Childbirth Class
- A customized program to fit your needs and schedule.
- Class Fee: $40 per hour (six hour minimum)
Baby Bootie Camp
This six-hour class prepares new parents for the basics of infant care, including bathing, diapering, baby safety, how to calm a fussy baby, illness issues, basic breast and bottle feeding and much more. You’ll learn infant and child CPR, as well as how to care for a choking infant by practicing many of the skills in class. Adoptive parents have found this class to be a great resource to prepare them for their new baby.
Class Fee: $50; If bundled with Essentials of Childbirth or One-Day Condensed Childbirth Series, combined cost is $100.*
New Brother/New Sister
For children ages three to 12 who will soon become big brothers or sisters, this class invites them to help prepare for the new arrival. Children will learn what newborns do, practice the proper way to hold a baby, change a diaper on a doll and decorate a onesie or T-shirt for their new brother or sister. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included.
Class Fee: $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child
Breastfeeding Basics
This two-hour class includes all the basics you need to breastfeed your infant including position and latch, breastfeeding benefits, resources, preventing problems and information about pumping and returning to work. An informative video supplements the class.
Class Fee: $25

Meet our Childbirth Education Instructor
Natalie D. Williams, RN, BSN, CCE, ELCS, CHBE
Natalie Williams teaches all of the childbirth education classes at Atrium Medical Center. She started her career at Atrium Medical Center in 1991. In 1995, she transferred to the hospital’s Family Birth Center where she provided labor, delivery and postpartum care to mothers and newborns. Natalie began teaching childbirth education classes in 1999, and since then she has continually enhanced her education and gained a wealth of experience with moms, babies and families.
Natalie’s education and certifications include:
