Recognizing Quality
A sampling of 2010 accreditations and certifications
When a service area at Atrium Medical Center receives a certification or accreditation, it means much more than just a job well done. It means we are committed to delivering the highest-quality care for patients and to meeting or exceeding national standards for that care.
Hospitals are not required to earn accreditations — it’s a voluntary process. It takes a great deal of work to begin the process, and continual dedication to uphold the level of excellence required to maintain accredited or certified status.
Why does Atrium strive for these accreditations? “Earning accreditation follows directly with Atrium’s mission to build healthier communities,” says Mark Williams, MD, chief medical officer. “Being accredited means we provide the optimal comprehensive quality of care for patients. They can be confident coming to Atrium.”
The Highest Standards of Care for Chest Pain
Atrium Medical Center has become the first accredited Chest Pain Center in Butler and Warren counties. This designation was given by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC), an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the number one cause of death worldwide. As an accredited Chest Pain Center, Atrium has demonstrated the highest standards of care for patients with symptoms of a heart attack.
To become an accredited Chest Pain Center, Atrium underwent a rigorous evaluation by the SCPC for its ability to quickly assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. Through ongoing education and collaboration efforts with area Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Atrium has achieved best practice initiatives that save valuable time, minimize damage to the heart and improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with a heart attack.
This accreditation, along with the availability of open-heart surgery and interventional cardiology, is just one of the many steps Atrium has taken to provide high-quality cardiac care to the region.
