Atrium Medical Center’s Diabetes Wellness Center Hosts 10th Annual Wellness Fair and Stroke Screening
Middletown, Ohio, October 10, 2011 – Atrium Medical Center’s Diabetes Wellness Center will be teaming up with Atrium’s Stroke Program to host the 10th annual Diabetes Wellness Fair and Stroke Screening. The wellness fair, which coincides with American Diabetes Month, will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, in the Auditorium on the fifth floor of the Professional Building at Atrium Medical Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Free health screenings, including blood sugar, total cholesterol and blood sugar, will be offered to help determine your risk of diabetes and stroke. Fasting is not required. You’ll learn about the many diabetes services offered by Atrium, as well as diabetes products available from more than 40 vendors. Door prizes will also be given away.
“In Butler and Warren counties alone, there are more than 38,000 residents with diabetes,” explains Carolyn Fogarty, manager of the Diabetes Wellness Center. “Nationally, a staggering 57 million people have pre-diabetes. These are the people who could prevent diabetes through education, exercise and healthy eating.”
Additionally, stroke is the third leading cause of death and the number one cause of adult disability in the United States. It’s estimated that over half of strokes can be prevented by controlling risk factors.
