John M. Miller, MD, Cardiothoracic Surgery

Miller HeadshotA surgeon since 1997, Dr. John M. Miller joined the Atrium Cardiology team in 2000. Prior to that, Dr. Miller was with Lansing Heart and Lung in Lansing, Michigan. His administrative positions have included: serving as Associate Chief of Surgery and Associate Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Dayton Heart Hospital, and serving as Medical Director of the Open Heart Program at Atrium. Dr. Miller has also served as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Wright State University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.

Dr. Miller received both his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and his Medical degree from The Ohio State University. He completed an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He did his residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital and at University Hospitals of Cleveland. 

Dr. Miller is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Scott Warren Denmark, MD, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon

Denmark HeadshotA surgeon since 1987, Dr. Scott Warren Denmark joined the Atrium Cardiology team in 1990.

His administrative positions have included serving as Chief of the Department of Surgery at Franciscan Medical Center and as Co-Medical Director of the Wound Center, Associate Chief of Surgery, and Associate Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, all at the Dayton Heart Hospital. He has also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Wright State University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.

Dr. Denmark has a Bachelor of Science from Princeton University, a Master of Science in Physiology from The Ohio State University, and a Medical degree from Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Denmark completed an internship and his residency in General Surgery at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh. He completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Denmark is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Rhonda Proffitt, RT, Director, Cardiology Product Line

Proffitt HeadshotRhonda Proffitt has been a part of the Atrium community since 1973. Rhonda has served in a number of roles at the hospital and has a wide variety of business and management experience, including new program development, customer service initiatives, quality assurance, and development, negotiation, and procurement of large operating and capital equipment budgets.

As Director of the Cardiology Product Line, Rhonda is responsible for coordinating and integrating Cardiology across the continuum of care at Atrium. She is also responsible for maintaining quality accredited programs for the Cardiology service line.

Rhonda has been a Registered Radiologic Technologist since 1973 and a Paramedic since 1974. Rhonda received her degree in Practical Nursing in 1975 from the Dayton School of Practical Nursing.

Bobbie McClinton, RN, BS, BSN, CCRN, Director, Critical Care and Cath Lab

McClinton HeadshotBobbie McClinton joined Atrium in 2001.  She worked in Utilization Review/Case Management from 2001 to 2003 and was the Nurse Manager of the CCU/CTU from 2003 to 2007.  She served as a key clinical consultant for Atrium’s open heart program and managed the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit until 2008, when she became Director of Critical Care and Cath Lab.

Bobbie’s previous professional experience includes working as a Cardiac Educator and Critical Care Support/Registered Nurse at Kettering Medical Center, Interim Nurse Manager, Shift Manager, Staff Nurse, and Staff Nurse, Level II, all at Miami Valley Hospital. Bobbie received her Associate degree from Troy State University in Montgomery in 1977 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capital University in Columbus in 1999.

Sharon Halter, CCP

Sharon Halter has been a board-certified cardiovascular Perfusionist since 1980. Prior to joining our team in 2001, she worked with Edwards Lifesciences in San Diego, California; Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut; and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sharon received her Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Medical Studies from Kansas State University in 1969. She received her Perfusionist degree from Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1976.
