Childbirth Education Classes
When you become pregnant, you enter a whole new world of exciting unknowns. Babies are so tiny, yet they generate such big questions—about your changing body, about what to expect during labor and delivery, and about caring for a new life.
Atrium Medical Center offers a complete series of childbirth education courses for expectant parents and their families. These informative classes guide you through each phase of the birth process—pregnancy, labor, delivery, and parenting your newborn.
All classes are held at Atrium Medical Center. They are taught by a registered nurse certified in childbirth education with years of experience assisting expectant parents and families in having a more satisfying birth experience.
The Essentials of Childbirth
This four-week series prepares you and your partner for your delivery by teaching the essentials of childbirth. You will learn what to expect during the labor and delivery process, practice helpful comfort measures, and learn breathing techniques. You will also find out about the use of medication during labor and delivery, anesthesia, Cesarean birth, and early postpartum care. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included. For this popular class, we recommend that you register no later than 24 weeks into your pregnancy.
Class Fee: $65

Baby Bootie Camp
This class is held in one six-hour Saturday session or two three-hour weeknight sessions and prepares new parents for the basics of infant care including bathing, sleep patterns, baby safety, how to care for a fussy baby, illness issues, breast and bottle feeding, and much more. You will also learn infant CPR, as well as care for a choking infant, by practicing several of these skills in class.
Class Fee: $50

New Brother/New Sister
For children ages three to 12 who will soon become big brothers or sisters, this class invites them to help prepare for the new arrival. Children learn what newborns do, practice the proper way to hold a baby, change a diaper on a doll, and decorate a onesie or t-shirt for the new brother or sister. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included.
Class Fee: $10 for the first child and $5 for each additional child.
Childbirth Series for Teens and Single Parents
All expectant parents need to learn how to give their baby a healthy start. This four-week series for teens and single parents prepares you and your partner or support person for what to expect during the labor and delivery process. You’ll practice helpful comfort measures and learn breathing techniques. You’ll also find out about the use of medication during labor and delivery, anesthesia, Cesarean birth and early postpartum care. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included. Registration is recommended no later than 24 weeks into your pregnancy.

One-Day Condensed Childbirth Series
This single session, six-hour class is a fast-paced overview for you and your partner of what to expect during labor and birth. You’ll learn breathing techniques and practice helpful comfort measures. Discussions will include medication, anesthesia, Cesarean birth and early postpartum care. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included. Lunch coupons will be provided. This class is a great option for couples whose schedules won’t allow them to attend a four-week childbirth series.
Class Fee: $65, including lunch coupons
Welcome to Grandparenthood
Has it been a while since you’ve cared for an infant? This class will help soon-to-be grandparents brush up on basic infant care, such as bathing, diapering, feeding and cord care. You’ll also learn infant safety, including CPR and care for a choking infant, plus current trends in childbirth. A tour of our Family Birth Center is included.
Class Fee: $25
Personalized Childbirth Class

Meet our Childbirth Education Instructor
Natalie D. Williams, RN, BSN, CCE, ELCS, CHBE
Natalie Williams teaches all of the childbirth education classes at Atrium Medical Center. She started her career at Atrium in 1995, providing labor, delivery and postpartum care to mothers and newborns in our Family Birth Center. Natalie began teaching childbirth education classes in 1999, and since then she has continually enhanced her education and gained a wealth of experience with moms, babies and families.
