Atrium Medical Center to Expand Services for Butler-Warren County Residents in Monroe
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (May 15, 2017): Atrium Medical Center has new plans to meet the needs of the growing Butler-Warren County community of Monroe by building a health center to expand services and the number of primary care providers in the city.
The nonprofit health system has purchased nearly 16 acres of land at the northwest corner of Cincinnati-Dayton Road and Ohio 63, where it will build a more than 19,000-square-foot facility housing a primary care practice, specialty physicians, and potentially other services.
The project is still in the planning stages. Next steps include selecting a developer to begin construction ahead of an anticipated 2018 opening.
“Monroe residents have long been turning to Atrium Medical Center to meet their health needs, and as the community grows, Atrium will grow with Monroe by expanding our service offerings close to where people live and in convenient locations for people to access,” said Michael Uhl, president of Atrium Medical Center. “Building a new space in Monroe is another example of how Premier Health lives up to our mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”
Once construction work is complete next year, Monroe Medical Center, a primary care practice and part of the Premier Physician Network, will relocate to the Cincinnati Dayton Road site from existing leased space, also in Monroe.
“Monroe Medical Center has provided care to the Monroe and Middletown area for more than 70 years and we have outgrown our present facility. With the new building, we’re going to add additional providers to allow us to see more patients and serve our patients in more modern surroundings,” said Dr. Maurice Swanson, a primary care physician at the Monroe center.
Additionally, plans call for the new facility to make room for other health services.
“Over the last five years Monroe has seen its population grow 8 percent, and a growing population means a greater need for more health services. Atrium Medical Center’s plans to expand the Monroe practice represent a strong partnership between the health system and the city to provide residents the services they want,” said William Brock, City Manager of Monroe. “What excites us the most is Atrium’s investment in a new and larger facility, which is a long-term commitment to our city.”
Atrium Medical Center is celebrating in 2017 the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Middletown hospital. While the celebrations reflect on the hospital’s history, Atrium is also offering new services.
These plans to build a health center in Monroe join another recently announced project to build a new health center in Liberty Twp., which is also in the planning stages.
In December, Atrium started its new Natural Beginnings Birth Center, the first comprehensive natural birth center in the greater Cincinnati area to be located within an acute care hospital. Also in April, Atrium opened a Senior Emergency Center offering geriatric-friendly emergency care within the hospital’s existing Emergency Trauma Center.
Atrium Medical Center is a full-service hospital and Level III Trauma Center located conveniently along the Interstate 75 corridor at exit 32, One Medical Center Drive in Middletown, between Cincinnati and Dayton. The hospital employs more than 1,500 people in full-time, part-time and on-call positions. Atrium is operated by the Dayton-based nonprofit Premier Health system.
