Natural Beginnings Birth Center Marks 100th Natural Birth

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (May 1, 2018): A-W-COM81347-100NtrBrthsWhen Carlie and Grayson Schick of Middletown welcomed new daughter Abigail Pearl on April 26, it marked the 100th natural birth delivery at Atrium Medical Center since the hospital started its Natural Beginnings Birth Center at the end of 2016. Natural Beginnings —the first comprehensive natural birth center in the greater Cincinnati area located within an acute care hospital—provides expecting mothers services to cope with labor without traditional interventions. Two private natural birthing suites for labor and delivery are part of the hospital’s Family Birth Center, offering an additional safety net of medical staff nearby who can respond with emergency and surgical care if necessary. "To us, it was a really big deal to have a water birth, and we wanted to have it in a hospital-like setting for ease of mind," said mother Carlie Schick. Abigail is Carlie’s second child born in natural birth programs at Premier Health hospitals.

Total deliveries including natural births grew 6.6 percent at Atrium in 2017 from the year before to more than 950 babies born.
