Warren County Safe Communities Coalition partners with local businesses to remind drivers to plan a sober ride home

MIDDLETOWN, OHIO, Dec. 30, 2016 – This holiday season, the Warren County Safe Communities Coalition is joining forces with area businesses to remind all drivers that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving and to always plan a sober ride home before the holiday parties begin.

Customers who order an alcoholic beverage from nearly a dozen participating businesses during the holiday season will see a special reminder on their drink coaster. Coalition members hope the message will make them think twice before getting behind the wheel intoxicated.

From 2011 to 2015, 3,983 people were killed in the U.S. in December crashes that involved drivers with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of .08, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Do not let anyone who is impaired have the keys to a vehicle,” said Mandy Wells, trauma outreach coordinator for Atrium Medical Center and coordinator of Warren County Safe Communities. “Impaired drivers can turn a fun-filled night into an unfortunate tragedy.”

The following businesses are supporting the Warren County Safe Communities Coalition by participating in the holiday drunk driving awareness campaign: Fox & Hound of Deerfield Twp., Eli’s Sports Bar & Grill in the Mason area, Buck’s Tavern of Loveland, Two Cities Pizza Co. of Mason, Carol’s Speakeasy Lounge of Middletown, and Crooked Handle Brewing Co. of Springboro.

The Warren County coalition—whose members include Atrium Medical Center, Warren County law enforcement agencies, local government agencies and Ohio State Highway Patrol— focuses on motor vehicle and traffic safety awareness initiatives. Follow Warren County Safe Communities Coalition on Facebook.
