The professionals at Atrium Medical Center’s are experienced in surgically treating urologic cancers. We are proud to offer the latest technology in treatment options, while also maintaining an unsurpassed level of personal care for each of our patients.

Prostate Cancer

Atrium Medical Center offers multiple options for treatment of prostate cancer, including traditional radiation therapy and high dose rate brachytherapy. When surgery is required, the standard treatment is a radical prostatectomy, or removal of the prostate. Minimally-invasive robotic surgery has been used extensively to remove the prostate . Its benefits are well known, including:

  • Effective cancer control — Studies have shown that experienced surgeons have achieved excellent results in removing prostate cancer without leaving cancer cells behind
  • Improved and early return of sexual function
  • Improved and early return of urinary continence
  • Improved results over traditional treatments — Surgery has a higher and longer survival rate, and a lower risk of long-term complications than radiation or other treatments

Kidney Cancer

Several types of cancer can develop in the kidneys. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form, accounts for approximately 85 percent of all cases. Treatment for kidney cancer depends on the clinical stage of the tumor.

In many cases surgery to remove all or part of the affected kidney is required. This procedure can be performed using an open or laparoscopic (minimally-invasive) procedure. In some cases, a partial nephrectomy (or kidney-sparing surgery) can be an option.

Bladder Cancer

There are two main surgeries for bladder cancer. Transurethral resection (TUR) removes cancerous cells from the bladder. Cystectomy removes all or part of the bladder if cancer has spread into the bladder muscle.
