Detection and Prevention

Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death in ages 1-44 according to the Centers of Disease Control. Many traumatic injuries are preventable with the right education and precautionary measures taken. Educating yourself about how to safely avoid accidents is a great way to prevent injury and stay healthy. It's also the best way to avoid a trip to the emergency department.

At Premier Health, we provide a wide range of community programs, educational workshops and trainings throughout Southwest Ohio. Our hospitals present injury prevention programs in partnership with our Injury Prevention Center.

Our injury prevention programs focus on:

  • Driving safety
  • Fall prevention
  • How to stop life-threatening bleeding
  • Violence prevention
  • Poisoning and drug overdose prevention
  • Safe communities
  • Health and wellness education

Stop the Bleed: Save a Life

Stop the Bleed is a national campaign focused on raising awareness of life-saving strategies and providing public access to bleeding control tools already used by first responders and the military.

The program prepares bystanders, whether a health care provider or the general public, to use the basic principles of bleeding control to provide first aid in an emergency. This campaign is a collaboration between the National Security Council and the American College of Surgeons.

The one-hour workshop teaches people of all ages how to perform basic hemorrhage control to help prevent deaths from blood loss. You’ll learn to:

  • Recognize life-threatening bleeding
  • Apply direct pressure to a bleeding wound
  • How to use and apply a tourniquet
  • Packing a wound
  • What to do until emergency responders arrive
